2008 Wallace Brook Pinot Gris

Appellation: Willamette Valley, Oregon

Tasting Notes: 100% Pinot Gris.  13.2% ABV.  Straw colored. Nose is apples, pears, and a little floral note, with a hint of lemon.  Attack is apple juice with lemon in it, then it transitions to very nice minerality.  Good acid, then the finish moves back to sweet.  The attack is off putting to me, but the wine turns around and overcomes it to a certain extent. This is a wine your friends who don’t really like wine will like.  Serviceable, but there’s better wine out there at under $10.

Rating: 2/5

Price: Unknown, someone brought this to my house.  Cellartracker has it around $9

N.V. Ledgewood Creek Owl House Red

Appellation: Suisun Valley, North Coast, California

Tasting Notes: 14.6% ABV.  This is a Rhone blend, violet in the glass. Nose is spicy, with lots of red fruit, a little cedar.  Nice red fruit on the attack, good structure, tannins.  Dry.  Pepper coming through on mid palate.   A touch of heat on the back end, not much finish.  Pretty good, great for the price.

Rating: 3/5

Price: Was in a mixed case, around $10.
