2006 Campo Viejo “Crianza” Rioja
Tasting Notes : Aged 24 months, 12 months in oak barrels, 13.5% vol. Ruby red in the glass. Dark chocolate immediately jumps out of the glass (no swirling needed), followed by strong notes of rich, black fruits, black cherries, cupboard spice, and vanilla. This nose is rather dark, deep, and ever so slightly meaty. A fruit bomb in the mouth, can someone say jammy?! There is a balanced acidity, full body, and medium, bitter tannins. Flavors of black and red fruits, cassis, and blackberry and the slightly bitter and sour finish. An OK wine that definitely should be served a little under room temperature, around 17C.
