2008 Deep Creek Cellars Studio 42
Appellation: Friendsville, Maryland
Tasting Notes: 65% Vidal, 25% Pinot Gris, 7% Seyval, 3% Cabernet Franc. 12% ABV. Really pretty golden color, deep and rich. Nose is smoke, with some sweetness, honey, citrus, and some floral notes. Almost no fruit, which is interesting. This is really different. Some melon, more honey, citrus, and more smokiness. Full bodied, rich mouthfeel, yet crisp and clean. Good acid, good minerality, makes my mouth water. This is a wine geek’s kind of wine, but with a delicious factor that would make it a crowd pleaser. Cries out for some rich food. This is great stuff, and does Maryland winemaking proud.
